HISTORY OF THE AUSTRALIAN CORVETTES

Of the sixty locally-built corvettes, 36 were for the Royal Australian Navy and 20 for the Royal Navy, but commissioned as HMAS vessels with Australian crews. (See here for the four Indian Navy corvettes). Below we present the stories of the 56 HMAS corvettes: their launching, wartime service and post-war fates, as well as multiple images of the ships and their crews.

The Maritime Trust of Australia would like to thank Kerry Hodges for originally compiling these histories from extensive sources, and also acknowledge the award of a grant from the Department of Veterans' Affairs Saluting Their Service Commemorative Grants Program that made the file processing and setup of this page possible.
