VISITING US
HMAS Castlemaine is open for inspection every weekend and public holiday from 11am to 4pm. Adults $10, Children 5-15 yrs $5, Families (two adults & two children) $25. Children under 5 yrs – free. During the summer the ship is usually open every day from Boxing Day until the second Sunday of January (please check website for confirmation at the time).
Visitors to HMAS Castlemaine are free to explore the ship, watching the original engines turning, viewing the restored equipment and frequently changing exhibits. Visitors are welcome to traverse the guns, ring bells and use voicepipes to relay messages between compartments. Guided tours are usually available. Typically visitors take an hour to visit all compartments in the ship.
Smoking is not permitted on board. Footwear suitable for climbing steel ladders is essential – high heel shoes and scuffs are unsuitable. Space is available for prams and pushers to be left on the deck as they are difficult to manoeuvre throughout the many passages and openings. Minor first-aid facilities are available.
Tuesdays are working days and visitors may not be admitted, depending upon the work being undertaken on that day. We may be able to accommodate weekday visits through prior arrangement. People with mobility impairments are best to call ahead to organise special requirements. Owing to the nature of the ship, wheelchair access is difficult though we strive to assist all visitors in every way.
